What Are Larys’ Plans for the Prisoners in House of the Dragon?
In the latter half of House of the Dragon’s sixth episode, we see that Larys Strong has gone to the prisoners who are set to be executed and cut out their tongues. This scene is not as pointlessly cruel as it might appear at first glance though, as there is a huge motive as to why he decided to do this heinous act. But first, we have to look at the scene where we next see the “prisoners.” We next see the prisoners, under Larys’ directives, murder his brother and father by burning Harrenhal Castle to the ground with them in it. As this is an act of treason, where the former prisoners are effectively murdering the Hand of the King, Larys can’t have these men go and talk about it. What if they got caught? It is for this reason that Larys made this decision because they have every reason to spill the beans on why they set the fire if they were to be caught. However, with Larys taking their tongues out, he ensures that this cannot happen. At the end of the episode, we see that Alicent finds out about what Larys has done, a scene in which he uses her own words against her. Whether or not the Queen Consort likes it, Larys definitely sees an opportunity within her in order to raise his own station and accomplish his own goals.
